Up until now, the film has been receiving positive reviews from both the critics and fans alike, considering there was quite a bit of doubt over its success as the first MCU film to have an Asian lead. While the film on the whole has been having a good run, there are however a few plot holes and unexplained questions that come to the viewer’s attention upon watching the movie. Read on to find out more about them.

  • THE TEN RINGS, WHAT ARE THEY?

The ten rings have made appearances and have been referenced throughout the MCU, the Ten Rings were actually introduced briefly in Iron Man, but were never really fleshed out properly. Mandarin's Ten Rings are alien artifacts that were found in the remains of a crashed starship; each possesses a different power. However, the MCU has a different portrayal of the rings uptil now. They were first introduced briefly in Iron Man; as a terrorist organization that kidnapped Tony Stark. But in Shang Chi, the rings are shown having the power to manipulate some unknown form of energy. And even their origin is left for speculation.

  • THE MASTERS OF THE MYSTIC ARTS AND WHY THEY DIDN’T DEAL WITH THE RINGS

The movie showed that Wenwu had been using the Ten Rings for a thousand years, and yet it is surprising to think that the Masters of the Mystic Arts never confronted him. Especially since it is known that the Ancient One used the Eye of Agamotto to search the globe looking for potential threats.

  • THE TIMELINE OF SHANG CHI

The movie’s timeline doesn't quite make sense. The opening scenes indicate that Shang-Chi was born shortly after his parents met in 1996, and the film's events clearly take place in the year 2021. However, Shang-Chi is supposedly set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, meaning it must be in late March and early April 2024 instead - and Shang-Chi would have to have been born a little later.

  • WHY DID THE TEN RINGS JUMP TO SHANG CHI?

The movie sees Shang-Chi desperately attempt to stop Wenwu from breaking the Great Seal. A feat that initially appears to end in failure, simply because his father wields the power of the Ten Rings ; that is until the Rings begin to respond to Shang-Chi instead. The film doesn't really explain what is going on in this scene, and the viewer is left to make assumptions.
