"The last Marvel project, who knows, but I see it as my last Guardians movie," Gunn told the entertainment channel. "I'm a guy who never says never because I've seen too many people say 'never' and be pulled back into the fray, so I wouldn't say that. But I see it as being my last Guardians movie.", Gunn stated. He also talked about the film being Dave Bautista’s final one as well, saying, "I know Dave sees it as being his last Guardians movie, and Dave and I are pretty much attached to the hip on those projects. So I don't see me going on and doing any more after that."

As for Bautista, he took a more neutral stance, confirming that he would not be returning as Drax in the Phase 4 project titled What If….?, since Marvel had not asked him to. He had also stated earlier, that he would quit the movie when Gunn was fired for a brief while after some of his tweets regarding sensitive topics sparked controversy. This is what Bautista said,

“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me,” adding “I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”

He further explained by saying, “Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man,” Bautista explained. “I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: f**k this. This is bulls**t. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met.”
