Peacemaker Series: Episodes, Release Date, Cast Plot

Peacemaker is an upcoming American television series created by James Gunn, based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. It is a spin-off from the film The Suicide Squad and is set in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It will reportedly be the first attempt to combine a TV series with the DCEU. The series is produced by DC Films, The Safran Company, Troll Court Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Television, with James Gunn serving as showrunner.

Peacemaker is the name of a series of superheroes originally owned by Charlton Comics and later acquired by DC Comics. The original Peacemaker made his debut in Fightin' 5 #40 in November 1966 and was created by writer Joe Gill and artist Pat Boyette. The Peacemaker is a murderer who believes that peace should be achieved no matter what, even if he has to kill people for that. The series was announced on September 23rd, 2020 and will have 8 episodes, of which five, including the premiere, will be directed by James Gunn. The remaining three will be directed by Jody Hill, Brad Anderson, And Rosemary Rodriguez. Here is everything that we know about the show.

John Cena is the Co-Producer

John Cena will be making his debut as the Peacemaker in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad sequel, set to release in theatres in August. Cena will also be reprising in a spin off series releasing next year. In addition to starring in it, he is also the co-producer of the show. Other than guest star appearances, voice-only roles, host duties, and reality TV appearances, will be Cena's first major TV series. Additionally, it will also be his first leading narrative TV role. While the actor has an already established career as a movie star, the new series will mark Cena's big return to television.

Premiere Date

As revealed by HBO Max Chief Casey Bloys in an interview with THR, the series will be releasing in January 2022. However, it is not a confirmed date, and it seems that the plan is for James Gunn to finish up work on this new series in the remaining summer and early fall months ahead, with the show completed before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 starts production in November..


The Series will reportedly follow the origin story of the Peacemaker, a man who believes in peace at all cost, no matter how many have to be killed. The series will tell the story of a law and order-loving man who's not opposed to slaying in the name of common decency. The Peacemaker persona in the comics has been assumed by many men, but the series will be specifically talking about Christopher Smith, the original and first Peacemaker.


As mentioned before, the series will be having eight episodes, with five of them being directed by James Gunn and the remaining three by Jody Hill, Brad Anderson, And Rosemary Rodriguez. Gunn will however be writing the script for all eight of them. The names of the episodes are as follows:

  2. "Best Friends Never"
  3. "Better Goff Dead"
  4. "Stop Dragon My Heart Around"

The names of the remaining episodes are yet to be announced.


In addition to John Cena being featured in the main role, Peacemaker will also star Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji. Agee will be reprising his role in Suicide Squad as John Economos, Belle Reve penitentiary's warden, while Brooks is set to appear as Leota Adebayo, a woman with ties to the Pracemaker. Moreover, Patrick will be seen as Auggie Smith, Christopher Smith's powerful, racist father, who served as a vigilante under the moniker Peacemaker. Furthermore, Holland is Emilia Harcourt, an NSA agent, Stroma will be playing the role of Adrian Chase aka Vigilante, a crime-fighting district attorney, and Iwuji will be appearing as Clemson Murn, a leader connected to Christopher.
